Brazil World Cup 2014 News: Defensive Germany Oust France At 1-0

Germany booked themselves a semifinal game against hosts Brazil after defeating France at a 1-0 win. The one and only goal in the match was made by German Mats Hummels.

With only 12 minutes into the game, the German wonder turned Toni Kroos' free-kick into a scoring header, as it got past the French goalkeeper.

The Les Bleus on the other hand, played less spectacular today than their previous games in the last 16 or in th group stage. The team was blocked effectively by the strong defences of the German. Les Bleus did not have much opportunities to goal all through out the game.

"I think both teams played well defensively today. There weren't many goalscoring opportunities, which was part of our plan. We didn't want to give France chances with the quality of strikers they possess. We closed them down well - and that was the key," Germany coach Joachim Low said.

German goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer was only tested around after 30 minutes, when a low strike from Mathieu Valbuena was made. Karim Benzema, French striker, was definitely not having a good match throughout, either.

As the bells rang in the 90th minute, the early goal from the Germans were uncomplemented by the French. The France team will now have to head home.

"Although our adventure in Brazil ends here and we're sad, disappointed and frustrated, we'll move on. I hope this group of players can play together for a long time. I have a lot of work to do with them, but things are definitely promising," said Didier Deschamps, France Coach.

Nevertheless, man of the match Mats Hummels commended their opponents. He said, " France are a top team and today was tough - it certainly wasn't a walk on the park. That said, I think we deserved to win."
