Brazil World Cup 2014 News: Argentina Go To Semis, Defeat Belgium At 1-0

Thanks to Argentinian forward Gonzalo Higuain's early goal, his team will be off competing to the semifinals against the mighty Holland. On the other hand, the golden generation of Belgium boys look like they need some more experience for the next World Cup, as they exit this tournament.

With just eight minutes to the start of the game, Higuain scored the sole goal of the match. Through an error from Belgium skipper Vincent Kompany, he improvised and shot the ball on target.

Also through the early lead, the Albiceleste managed to take care of their defences without worrying too much about the score. The offense side was quite unimpressive, but that single goal proved to be enough for a win.

"Our performance was excellent tactically, strategically and in how a team should behave, with team-mates putting themselves on the line for each other," said Alejandro Sabella, Argentina coach.

Also, another thing that hurt the Argentinian's attacks is Angel Di Maria's injury in the first half. Belgium's Vincent Kompany appeared to have hurt Di Maria's thigh as he blocked his shot.

"What's more, we were able to bounce back after [Angel] Di Maria had to go off, and he was a very big loss. We've achieved our minimum objective, which was to reach the last four, but we want more. That's what we've come for," the Argentinian coach added.

However, even though the Americans ousted France for this year, the young lads will have more to prove for the next World Cup in 2018. Their coach, Marc Wilmots, however was still rooting more from the winners.

He said, "Argentina didn't wow us. They looked quite an ordinary side to me, but they used their experience well."

About the team's comeback for the 2018 Russia World Cup, he added: "We've got lessons to learn: at tournaments like this you pay heavily for little mistakes, and sometimes you've got to be smarter than your opponents."

"You have to focus on the positives: this team have played well and have had recognition for that. It's been a good tournament."
