Justin Bieber superfan Alicia Tamboia dies in a tragic car crash on July 4. Believer fans mourn her loss and #RIPAlicia trended all over the world in her honor.
The accident saw Tamboia, who was one of two passengers in a Volkswagen, travelling at a high speed Interstate 90, when they hit another vehicle, spun and hit a tractor-trailer before it split into two. This all happened just before midnight on the Fourth of July. Tamboia, together with the other passengers, were thrown out of the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
Brian T. Miller, the driver in the 2003 Honda Civic that the Volkswagen struck was also taken to the Albany hospital, although his injuries not life-threatening.
Alicia was one of Justin's most loyal fans. After news of the incident broke out, Bieber fans and Justin himself all tweeted in her honor. Justin tweeted "#RIPAlicia" to his 52.7 million Twitter followers.
Alicia was just about to turn 24 and worked at Dichello Distributors, a food and beverage distributing company in Orange, Connecticut. She was a 2008 graduate of Dover High School in New York. According to her school's Athletic Director, Bob Esposito, she was a great kid with a lot of promise. She was very athletic and was on the hockey, basketball and softball teams at her high school.
Before she died, she was one her way to getting her Master of Science degree in business entertainment from Full Sail University, a Winter Park, Florida-based school that offers online degrees.
"She was a three-squad athlete, but she was really into field hockey," Bob reveals to the Poughkeepsie Journal. "Great kid. Good student. Dedicated to athletics - hands down. Popular, lot of friends, nice girl."
"She was a go-getter. She just had a good work ethic. She had so many plans. She was tough. She was always the one that was taking charges. A no-nonsense type of kid - which is great for a coach."
