Dave Rexroth, WXYZ Channel 7in Detroit's chief meteorologist, suffered from a very serious injury on a fireworks accident in Iowa that was held last 4th of July. Based on the reports issued by the station, this injury caused him to lose his sight in his left eye.
At present, Dave Rexroth remains hospitalized in Iowa and has already been scheduled for a surgery on Wednesday. He will be getting a prosthetic eye to replace his damaged one, and is expected to recovery by September of this year.
The 48-year-old meteorologist was actually out with his family on a vacation when the accident happened on Friday night. Details of the accident were only made available on Monday morning.
The Vice President and General Manager of the station, Ed Fernandez, said that they are all hoping for a speedy recovery for Dave Rexroth. Plus they are hoping that Rexroth could return working in September. In a report that was issued by WXYZ.com, Fernandez stated, "Our thoughts and prayers are with Dave and his family, and they have our full support during this difficult time. As Dave recovers, we'll provide updates on his progress - and we look forward to his return to Action News."
It was in August of 2010 that Dave Rexroth was named the chief meteorologist of the station. He has given weather forecasts and updates every night, and has been a famous personality when it comes to night-time newscasts. He has been with WXYZ since the year 2000.
Dave Rexroth is presently living in his Oakland County with his family, which comprises of his wife, Deborah and three sons.
WXYZ invited a lot of people to leave their well-wishes and prayers on the station's Facebook page. To date, there are over 2,200 viewers who have left their comments on the page. And, on Monday morning, almost 1,400 gave their well-wishes on Dave Rexroth's personal Facebook page. William Mullman, spokesperson of the Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyvn Orr, said, "We'll keep Dave in our prayers." TV writer Jim McFarlin also commented, "Detroit can't have any weather until you return!"
