The "Harry Potter" actress announced on Emma Watson's Twitter that she is excited to venture on her new role as the U.N Goodwill Ambassador for gender-equality and women's rights.
"So excited to start work with the AMAZING people at UN Women!" she said in Emma Watson Twitter.
U.N Women also announced on Monday that the British actress will be their new Goodwill Ambassador. She is the first appointee under the leadership of Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, the Under Secretary-General and executive director of U.N. Women, the Time said.
"Women's rights are something so inextricably linked with who I am, so deeply personal and rooted in my life that I can't imagine an opportunity more exciting," Emma Watson said.
She added, "I still have so much to learn, but as I progress I hope to bring more of my individual knowledge, experience and awareness to this role."
The 24-year-od actress will focus on HeForShe campaign of U.N Women. The advocacy campaign calls on men and boys to go against inequalities faced by women and girls.
Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka said that the "Harry Potter" actress, famously known for her character as Hermione Granger, is intelligent and passionate.
Also adding to her qualification for the position is her experience in promoting girls' education in Bangladesh and Zambia. U.N Women said this will help the organization's aim to spread its messages around the globally, BBC News said.
"The engagement of young people is critical for the advancement of gender equality in the 21st century, and I am convinced that Emma's intellect and passion will enable UN Women's messages to reach the hearts and minds of young people globally," Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka said in a statement.
After Emma Watson's Twitter announcement, U.N Women's website even crashed upon the news.
"The exciting announcement of @EmWatson as our Goodwill Ambassador crashed our website! We apologize and hope to be back up soon," the U.N Women Twitter said.
The "Harry Potter" actress recently received her diploma for English Literature from Brown University.
After the famous "Harry Potter" series, the actress also appeared in "The Bling Ring," "The Perks of Being A Wallflower," and "My Week With Marilyn."
