Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari described the team's loss against Germany as the 'worst day of his life'. With Germany brutally crushing Brazil, the semi-finals match was totally surreal. "I will be remembered as the coach to lose 7-1 but I knew that risk when I took the job," said Scolari, a World Cup winner with Brazil in 2002. Scolari said that he was the one who decided the line-up and the tactics were his choice.
The supporters had come to expect from Brazil in this tournament despite the nonappearance of the two of their best players, but it was Germany who showed composure and ruthlessness as if they were monsters in the field that left the Brazilians bewildered. As the minutes passed, Brazil was starting to crumble and crack little by little and soon faltered away.
Germany finished off the game in a 20-minutes period in the first half. It was an embarrassing loss for Brazil, having to be the first team to concede seven goals in a World Cup semi-final after being undefeated in 14 games ahead of the meeting with Germany. The football gods were deprived of their best defender and attacker in the match. However, Scolari added that they should not find an excuse in Neymar and Silva's absence in the game.
Obviously, the absence of Neymar and Silva was a huge toll for Brazil in the match however they want to deny it. The hosts will be competing against either Netherlands or Argentina on Saturday for the third place.
It was a tough match to watch. The planets were not really not aligned for Brazil today.
