New York Yankees news features a fan's defamation lawsuit against the team, the MLB itself, and ESPN after releasing a video of him sleeping in the stands during the game.
Andrew Rector fell asleep during the April 13 game between the New York Yankees and rival Boston Red Sox, and was broadcasted on national television. Along with it, he was heavily talked about by commentators John Kruk and Dan Shulman. The video was posted on MLB.com and Youtube.
The video of Rector is more than a full minute long, with both analysts poking fun at the him.
"Sometimes you have to turn it off, get some sleep," said former Phillies first baseman and analyst John Kruk about the New York Yankees news. "It's not the place you come to sleep."
"Tell you what, how comfortable is that," he added. "He probably won't have any neck problems tomorrow."
"We gotta see how long this guy is out for," said Shulman.
New York Yankees news further revealed that a lawsuit was filed by Rector, as posted by The Smoking Gun.
"Announcers like Dan Shulman and John Kruck [sic] unleashed avalanche of disparaging words against the person of and concerning the plaintiff," the lawsuit reads. "These words, include but not limited to 'stupor, fatty, unintelligent, stupid' knowing and intending the same to be heard and listened to by millions of people all over the world."
Rector's lawsuit was also directed to the Major League Baseball organization itself, and MLB.com, for making the video viral and allegedly adding insult to injury.
"The defendant Major league Baseball continually repeated these vituperative utterances against the plaintiff on the major league baseball web site the next day," it reads. "These words and its insinuations presented the plaintiff as symbol of anything but failure."
In a report by Yahoo! Sports, reporter Mike Oz also reveals that the plaintiff has named his price for the damages that were inflicted.
"Rector is seeking $10 million in damages after the "unending verbal crusade," Oz said in his report.
