Miami Heat has now added a new player into their roster and that is power forward Josh McRoberts. The 27 year old McRoberts has decided to make a deal with the Miami Heat on a 4 year contract worth $23 million utilizing the full midlevel exception.
McRoberts has started his NBA career with the Portland Trailblazers and have since then moved on to a couple of other teams. He has been to Indiana Pacers, then LA Lakers and move ahead to Orlando Magic and most recently to the Charlotte Hornets where he stayed form 2012 til now.
Josh was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers with the 37th overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft. Way before he was drafted in the NBA, he was awarded as the 2005 McDonald's All-America Game MVP.
This move from Miami Heat seems like their way of convincing LeBron James by providing him a supporting cast that can better bring the team to another finals win.
Miami Heat president released an official statement with regards to this matter "Miami HEAT President of Basketball Operations Pat Riley announced today that the team has been engaged in negotiations with free agent forward Josh McRoberts and intends to sign him to a contract at the conclusion of the NBA Moratorium Period."
McRoberts was one of the key person that assisted the Hornets to land as the seventh seed in the Eastern conference of the NBA playoffs. He averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in 30.3 minutes. He has also managed to improve his three point shots as he has attempted 291 3-pointers and connecting on 36.1 percent of them. Last season he only had attempted 185 3-pointers in 272 games.
Last preseason, Hornet's president Michael Jordan said of McRoberts "The success of this team is McRoberts - how well he can connect the dots."
On the other hand, Charlotte Hornets have made retaining McRoberts one of their top priority. But Hornets would need to work on how they can convince McRoberts to sign back for them instead of signing to a new team. It seems like his play has been improving this last season and his presence has been gaining importance to the Hornets.
