Khal Drogo is pissed off, but in a positive way for a change; the actor's thoughts on his character's demise are laid out in a "Game of Thrones" Jason Momoa interview.
"A Song of Fire and Ice" confirms George R.R. Martin's knack for killing characters at whim, most of whom meeting an unexpected demise. Fans of the HBO adaptation have nursed a bittersweet relationship with the author.
Many didn't like some of the producer's decisions to tweak the story for TV, but the series remained faithful to the books. While some who've read the saga waited for the inevitable deaths of characters to unfold on TV, some aren't as expectant.
Jason Momoa knew early on that his Khal Drogo character is offed at the start of the series, but it didn't lessen his disappointment at how Daenerys Targaryen's brutish first beau ended up. Drogo didn't die during combat, or at least through trial by combat, which was Tyrion Lannister's gambit in the previous season.
Momoa was wise enough to read about his character before the first season of "Game of Thrones" wrapped up, and was disappointed at how things turned out. Alyona Minkovski of Huffingto Post sat him down in a "Game of Thrones" Jason Momoa interview.
"After George Martin killed me, I was like 'go f*** yourself. I'm joking. But after George killed me, I was really upset. I went to go get the book at Barnes and Noble and I was bummed that I was dead. But it's brilliant writing."
It turns out the actors playing characters have the same love-hate relationship with R.R. Martin. Resurrecting his Khal Drogo character during the interview, Momoa also had something to say about Daenerys' budding romances.
"It is a little hard watching her with other men. Daenerys needs to cool it down. She needs to be a virgin. Have her dragons and that's it." (hngn.com)
The "Game of Thrones" Jason Momoa interview was all in good fun. The actor was a sport the entire time, promoting his new movie "Road to Paloma," out on theatres July 11 (huffingtonpost.com).
