The Costa Rica team were just recently welcomed home warmly by their nation after their most outstanding performance yet in the World Cup this year in Brazil.
Initially perceived as the underdogs during the first parts of the group stage, as they were clustered with champions such as Uruguay, Italy, and England, they managed to amaze everyone by not only getting out of the group, but even placing first, outlasting the favorites.
Moreover, the farthest they have gone was in the quarterfinals, where they clashed with the mighty Netherlands. It was not until after 90 minutes of gameplay that the team loss to the Dutch at 4-3 on penalties.
"If everything is possible, as you have taught us, then it is possible to Costa Rica to reach higher goals [...] Thanks for the path that you opened, thanks for the goals that you scored, thanks for the goals that you stopped, thanks for carrying the colors of Costa Rica to the summit of the world of sports. Welcome home! And always forward!' said Costa Rica President Luis Guillermo Solís.
"I'll always carry this in my heart," Colombian- born Coach Jorge Luis Pinto said, after fans cheered on 'Pinto don't go' as they knew that the coach's contract will be expiring soon. It is also perceived that this tournament is his last legacy to the Costa Rica team.
The best players from the nation were said to be Joel Campbell, Bryan Ruiz, and Saint Keylor Navas.
With a nation of just over 4.5 million, this win from their football team will be forever marked in their history, and so is this party.
The Central American team arrived at San Jose, the team's capital, just as the same time of the Brazil- Germany match, which ended in a bloodbath of the hosts' loss at 7-1.
At the other side of the globe, the Los Ticos celebrated so much with their nation's hero's welcome.
