It is truly a fulfilment to see two heavy favorites competing for the finals of the World Cup 2014. Germany and Argentina received really good impressions from the start of the tournament, but who looks like the one more likely to bring home the Cup?

Let's start first from their backgrounds.

Germany has had 18 appearances in the World Cup so far, they managed to garner three championships, four runners-up, and four third places. The last time they won a World Cup final was in 1990.

On the other hand, Argentina has had 16 appearances, 2 championships, and 2 runners-up so far.

Now, let's go to their performance for this year's World Cup.

Germany was quite a doubt during the Group Stage, as they came from a very competitive group. However, they managed to emerge in the top spot, defeating Portugal 4-0, tied with Ghana at 2-2, and won against USA at 1-0. In the knockout stages, of course the goals decreased, but they won against Algeria at 2-1. In the quarterfinals, they played defensively against France, but won nonetheless at 1-0. But most importantly, their greatest achievement yet is their semifinal win against Brazil, where they totally killed the hosts at 7-1.

On the other hand, Argentina were heavy favorites really from the start, but just doesn't look as stellar as Lionel Messi's resume. Nevertheless, they finished first too in the group stage, defeating Bosnia, Iran, and Nigeria at 2-1, 1-0, and 3-2 respectively. They also scored single goals only in their round of 16 match against Switzerland, as well as in the quarterfinals against Belgium. In their semifinal, they managed to defeat Netherlands through penalties at 4-3. Not as impressive as the Germans.

According to these statistics alone, it may look like Germany has more game than the La Albiceleste. Nevertheless, the South American team is well-known for surprise wins, so Germany should still watch out.
