Argentina moves on to the World Cup finals after defeating Netherlands 4 - 2 on penalties after a goalless 120 - minute match at Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo.
This would be the first time since 1990 that Argentina makes it to the World Cup finals.
Again, a similar matchup prevails as Argentina faces Germany once more. The two teams have met in the World Cup finals back in 1986 and 1990.
Argentina's goalkeeper Sergio Romero displayed an excellent performance after two penalty saves against Ron Vlaar and Wesley Sneijder. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen fails to prevent the advance of the Argentines.
Lionel Messi, Ezequiel Garay, Sergio Aguero, and Maxi Rodriguez score goals for Argentina while Arjen Robben and Dirk Kuyt secure points for Netherlands.
"This was a very hard, very even match," Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella said in a report in Yahoo! Sports.
"We had clearer possibilities to get a score," he added. "But it was probably a deserved result."
Meanwhile, Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal commends Argentina's performance at an interview in Yahoo! Sports. "I believe Argentina is a top country, top players. We didn't lose to them," he says. "Penalty kicks are always a matter of luck."
Argentina now faces Germany, who humiliated Brazil 7 - 1, at Estadio do Macarana in Rio De Janeiro on Sunday. Meanwhile, Netherlands will be pitted against Brazil at Estadio Nacional in Brasilia for the play-off for third place.
