The Emmy awards nominations has just been announced and HBO's True Detective is up for 12 awards including Best Drama Series and Best Actor for both Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
Expectations are at an all time high for the second season of the series, and most of the curiosity is about who will replace McConaughey and Harrelson as the show's leads. Fans are heavily speculating on the plot of the second season 2 as well, after the series had them looking all over the show and even the internet for clues about the "Yellow King."
Most of the True Detective casting rumors have Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain as the new leads for season 2. Even Matthew McConaughey was said to be coming back. But these have all been denied by show creator Nic Pizzollato
Pizzolatto did have everyone in a frenzy last week when he dropped the bomb in an interview with the NPR program, To The Best Of Our Knowledge, that there will be three leads in season 2. The media then went on to speculate that the 40-something-year-old detective "prototypes" for the male leads are Joaquin Phoenix, Christian Bale, and Josh Brolin.
At the Televison Critics Association summer press tour last Thursday, HBO Execs were hounded with question as well. But HBO Chairman and CEO Richard Plepler and president Michael Lombardo were also keeping quiet about any news.
"We're going to do the next season with puppets. They're being built right now," was how Lombardo responded to a question whether the True Detective casting rumor about one female lead and two male leads were true.
They did, however, say that the announcement on the casting choices will be revealed soon. Maybe as early as next week.
The HBO execs also shared that two scripts for season 2 have been turned in, and this is what Lombardo had to say "The two scripts we already have -- I hate to jink it -- but they are more exciting than the first season."
