Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Sex, Lies, And Videotape) directs actor Clive Owen in a brand new mini-series that will be airing on Cinemax.
The Knick revolves around the Knickerbocker Hospital, and the trailblazing group of surgeons, nurses, and staff who, in the year 1900, made unprecedented medical advances in a time when mortality rates were at an all-time high. The daring medical team did all of this in a time when there were no antibiotics to speak of.
The show is Cinemax' initial attempts into moving into more serious and distinguished show offerings, like its sister company, HBO.
Soderbergh will take the helm of all ten episodes of the series. The Academy Award winning director says he found The Knick's script so compelling, that he had to do the series. "I knew that if I said no, the second person who read it would say yes," the director said. "It's unfortunate that people have to listen to me talk about continuing to work. But I'm glad I did."
Clive Owen playing the brilliant but and smug Dr. John Thackery, and he is joined by André Holland, Eve Hewson, Juliet Rylance, Jeremy Bobb, Michael Angarano, Chris Sullivan, Cara Seymour, Eric Johnson, David Fierro, Maya Kazan, Grainger Hines, Leon Addison Brown and Matt Frewer.
