Floyd Mayweather news features the official announcement of the rematch against Marcos "El Chino" Maidana for "Money's" scheduled fight on September 13th.
Earlier this month, "Money" dropped a statement in an interview with LATen Media about a rematch against "El Chino."
"September 13, back to business, Marcos Maidana vs Floyd Mayweather Part II," he said. "Then in May, I'll have a big surprise for you."
However, in a report by Yahoo! Sports about the Floyd Mayweather news, a new announcement was made through the mobile app "Shots" on Thursday night. Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe also confirmed through the same sports news website that the fight will be co-promoted by Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions.
Interestingly enough, Floyd Mayweather's decision to co-promote with Golden Boy is a sudden change of tune, after declaring that he would no longer work with the said promotion company after its now former CEO Richard Schaefer stepped down from his post.
"We have a great working relationship with Richard Schaefer and that will never change," Ellerbe told ESPN about the Floyd Mayweather news in early-June. "Richard is a good friend and a great businessman and an excellent promoter. He built that company from the ground up and did a phenomenal job."
The rematch against Marcos Maidana will be Floyd Mayweather's fourth fight in his six-fight lucrative deal with television network Showtime. In their previous encounter in May, "Money" won via majority decision, but it was a fight that could have gone both ways after "El Chino" effectively pressed the action and was able to inflict damage in the first half.
Floyd Mayweather news also confirms that the fight will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, as opposed to what was initially reported to be at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. This was in line of the state's approval of "Money's" license to promote fights in the said state.
