34 year old point guard Steve Blake has signed a two year contract under the team Portland Trail Blazers. Blake has worked with the Trail Blazers during 2005-06 then 2007-2010 before jumping to other LA Clippers, then LA Lakers and recently, Golden State. It has been reported that the free agent will receive $4.2 million dollars with a player option for the second year.
Blake started his NBA career since 2003. He was selected by the Washington Wizards with the 38th pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. He averaged 5.9 points, 2.8 assists, and 18.6 minutes per game while playing in 75 games his rookie season with the Wizards. Last season, Blake averaged 7 points and 5.6 assists, splitting the season between the Lakers and Warriors. He has averaged 6.9 points, 4.0 assists and 2.2 rebounds over an 11-year NBA career.
It can be noted that Blake's best season was when he played with the Portland Trail Blazers in season 2008-2009 where he averaged his career high 11 points.
During a February interview with Diamond Leung, Blake seemed happy playing with the Warriors even though he only played fewer minutes with the team. He said "I can't lie. I wonder where I'll be next year. If I had the opportunity to be here, I would love it."
He continued "I already knew from the outside that they were a special team. I didn't realize what a great group of guys it was and how nice it is to play for Coach (Mark) Jackson. Those are all things that I'll be looking for, for a place I'd like to finish off my career at."
Blake has good relationship with center Chris Kaman who recently signed up for the Blazers with a two year contract $9.8 million. With the both of them in the team, they would be able to back up starting center Robin Lopez.
Kristen Blake, Steve's wife took to twitter to announce the good news "Thank you for the welcome back tweet #RipCity and the well wishes #LakerNation! Excited for our new adventure!"
Trail Blazers fans will be looking forward to Blake's solid minutes in the back court as he will try to push the team to the playoffs.
