Up to now, New York Knicks President Phil Jackson is still waiting for a response coming from Carmelo Anthony regarding his offer to sign up with his team saying "'But I expected one yesterday and the day before yesterday, But no, we're waiting."
Carmelo Anthony confirmed his decision to use his early termination option from his contract to the New York Knicks, seven teams has already shown interest in drafting him. He has opted out to use his early termination from the team for the 2014-15 seasons to become a free agent. The effectively date was July 1st. He had notified the team that he chose to get out of the $23.5 million deal for the 2014-'15 seasons.
Jackson said in an interview during the Knicks' summer league practice that he has tried texting Melo several times but got no reply but even so, he still feels confident in securing the 30 year old forward saying "'I felt really good about my conversation with Carmelo. We really struck a chord. 'The two of us, I think feel really passionately about what we're trying to get accomplished. It's his ability to stay, be patient, lead and watch us develop a winner."
According to reports, Knicks has offered Melo a five year max contract worth $180 million during their meeting in Los Angeles. Before that, Anthony has also met with a couple of NBA teams including Chicago, Houston, Dallas and the Lakers.
Jackson has made approximately five contracts for Anthony to choose from although he hopes that Anthony would be open to accepting less than the max amount so that the team would have the spending flexibility.
Knicks president has also confirmed that he has made contact with former Knicks player Pau Gasol. Jackson said that he is interested in signing the Spaniard even though he knows that he can only offer less than what Gasol deserves. He said "He knows what he has here and what is possible and I think he'd like to play with Carmelo and I think he'd like to play for a winner. And we can't guarantee that but with him; we'd guarantee a much better chance."
