"South Park" online streaming will no longer be free in September as both South Park Digital Studios and Hulu inked a deal to transfer all old and new episodes to its subscription service.
The Hulu Plus subscription service will host all "South Park" online streaming episodes staring on July 12. Both SouthParkStudioscom and SouthPark.cc.com, which used to stream the episodes, will still continue to exist although on a different dynamic.
The transfer was prompted by the three-year agreement between Hulu and South Park studio, which is a joint venture between the animated show's creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Viacom.
With the agreement in place, all "South Park" online streaming activities from the subscription service will be available for $7.99 a month on Hulu Plus, Varietyreported.
However, fans of the show can still watch 244 episodes of "South Park" online on Hulu and SouthParkStudios until September 24, by which time they would have "day-after-air access to new episodes from season 18."
In a statement by creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone released to the press, they said the agreement with Hulu was "a natural partnership for us."
"We are excited that the entire library will be available on Hulu and that the best technology around will power South Park Digital Studios," it reads.
Craig Erwich, Hulu's head of content, said in a statement that "South Park" has "revolutionized TV and pushed boundaries with unparalleled topicality and daring humor."
"'South Park' has been one of the top 10 most popular shows of all time on the platform. We're thrilled to offer the series to fans in its entirety," he said.
According to Variety, both SouthParkStudios.com and SouthPark.cc.com will continue to show the animated show, but only related content such as extras, history, trivia, blogs or anything except the "South Park" online streaming episodes.
