Germany crowned the World Cup champion for the fourth time after defeating Argentina on Sunday at Maracana. It was due to the extra-time winner Mario Gotze that led his country to victory. The athlete showed a perfectly commendable technique in his game play. Gotze, this time, outshine Messi.

The success of Germany in this year's World Cup means that they are the first European team to have bagged the trophy in South America.

The team had experienced a considerable amount of setbacks even before the match started-they had to regroup after losing their key midfielder Sami Khedira due to a injury during warm-up and his replacement Christoph Kramer to a blow to the head just before half-time. Nevertheless, they were able to engrave their triumph on the sporting history.

Argentine fans, just like before their semi-final match against Netherlands showed a very warm and vibrant support inside the Maracana. Germany was well represented as well and they had the support of many yellow-clad from Brazil. Many of their supporters stayed in their places more than an hour after the final whistle declaring their victory as they celebrated this win.

Argentina failed to have a shot on target the entire match. Lionel Messi who have been a four-time world player of the year performed with a lackluster and looked increasingly jaded as the game went on.

The team had reached the semi-finals in the previous two World Cups, and finally to this day, they were able to bring home the trophy and the prestige and pride their crowning achievement.

After their victory against Brazil on Tuesday, Germany had to focus on a different approach. With an opponent like Argentina, more concentration and resilience should be exerted. Now all of the team's efforts paid off. Germany has a World Cup to celebrate and this success will bring inspiration to the next generations of athletes; and who knows, might dominate the world of sports.
