Christopher Walken has been tapped by NBC to portray the role of Captain Hook on the network's live "Peter Pan Live" adaptation.

NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenbalt released a statement to confirm the news and said, "He's one of the most unique actors in our business. He might really just be a song and dance man at heart... This might be the first tap dancing Captain Hook you've ever seen."

Greenbalt added that Kristen Bell was initially on his mind to play the role of Peter, however, the actress is currently swamped with work, making it impossible for her to join the cast, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"We were talking about doing it with a man at one point, but we've had several women who wanted to do it and they're either busy or their schedules don't work. It's not like we can film this at any time; I need this person from August 5-December 5, so that knocks out the Kristen Bells of the world, who was somebody I talked to about doing it and she was interested by she was doing "House of Lies," Greenbalt explained during Sunday's Television Critics Association's summer press tour.

As of late, NBC has not yet confirmed that other celebrities who will be joining the cast of "Peter Pan," but Greenbalt raved over the success of last December's "Sound of Music" and said that he is hopeful "Peter Pan" will be well-received as well, Upstart Magazine noted.

"Everyone knows that last December's Sound of Music was a big hit. It got about 17 million of viewers. We are working hard for "Peter Pan Live" as well. This will air on December 4. Currently, we're on the process of casting."

Greenbalt said of Walken, "He can be a song and dance for the show. I can guarantee everyone that he will bring his unique spin for the character," according to Star Pulse.
