With the premiere episode for "Supernatural" season 10 coming on October 7, The CW has released the synopsis for the new season.

Season nine ended with Dean (Jensen Ackles) dying and resurrecting as a demon with the help of the Mark of Cain, Sam (Jared Padelecki) breaking down and asking for help from the King of Hell Crowley's (Mark Sheppard), and Castiel's (Misha Collins) stolen grace slowly deteriorating.

Reports had surfaced that "Supernatural" season 10's first episode will be tentatively titled, "Soul Survivor." Fans are left wondering about how dark this new season will be.

With The CW's synopsis, Sam's impending quest to save his brother is revealed.

"Season 10 begins with Sam's frantic search for his missing brother, who is gone without a trace," the official synopsis reads, "The road to recovering the wayward Dean takes Sam down dark paths, with consequences that will shake the boys to their core."

Viewers have already seen Sam go down the dark path with his demon blood addiction some seasons ago. Dean himself had already been to both hell and purgatory in past seasons, while Sam had come back to earth soulless after being trapped in a cage in hell with Lucifer and Michael.

The Winchester brothers aren't the only ones in trouble however. Their angel friend, Castiel is also in a rut with his slowly dwindling grace.

The CW adds, regarding the angel's plight, "Meanwhile, Castiel has to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of Metatron's campaign. With his grace failing and rogue angels still on the loose, Cass will face the ticking clock of his own mortality as all-new threats emerge to once again push all of our heroes to their limits."

Jensen Ackles will reportedly direct "Supernatural" season 10's still untitled episode three. The new season will come back on October 7 with a retrospective special set to air a day before, on October 6.
