Sorry Barcelona, but your $128 billion Luis Suarez signing will have to wait.
No matter how big money the Barcelona team used to buy Suarez, Fifa does not care. Luis Suarez, Uruguay striker, now infamously known for his record breaking biting ban will have to suffer the grave consequences of his actions.
Although his move from Liverpool to Barcelona in inevitable in a few days, the public unveiling of his signing will be postponed until the end of his four month ban.
Along with other Barcelona stars, Neymar and Messi, the ex- Liverpool striker will have a public signing. However, Fifa explicitly demanded that Suarez should do this after his ban, as it is still a 'football-related activity.'
Suggestions that the event should be held in a non-football related venue were dismissed by the Fifa. That is not allowed, either.
Delia Fischer, Fifa's head of media said: "The ban relates to all football-related activity. He cannot be in a football-related public event irrespective of the venue. He cannot even be involved in a football-related charity event."
It can be remembered that Suarez and his lawyer were also denied in their appeal to shorten Suzrez's biting ban. Even though the striker apologized to Italy's Giorgio Chiellini and the whole football scene, Fifa said they cannot do anything about the ban.
Suarez had said that they will try to appeal in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), nevertheless.
Suárez's lawyer was furious about the deny, and said on Friday that the punishment was "blatantly draconian, totalitarian and fascist".
"The right of a footballer to work is being violated, and football should be worried about that. The nine [international] games may seem excessive, but the fact that he can't watch a game of football, or train or carry out his job, we are talking about unpleasant things," said Suarez's lawyer, Alejandro Balbi in a Spanish radio station named Cope.
