"The Strain" series episode 1 met all the advance hype as "Night Zero" aired last July 13 on FX. It kicked off with actor Corey Stoll taking the lead, with a pair of wig and a no-nonsense attitude for his role of badass troubleshooter, Dr. Ephraim Goodweather.
The summer scarefest, the brainchild of Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan and Carlton Cuse, is predicted to be a smash hit for the network.
As reported by the Vox.com, the show shocked the audience by starting with a dire situation: All the passengers of an airliner that landed in New York are dead. Dr.Goodweather (Stoll), head of the Center for Disease Control, rushed to the scene to investigate. He and his team then find out that a suspicious crate on the plane has mysteriously disappeared.
Thus, the mystery behind the viral outbreak that could drive the human race to extinction unfolded.
Dr. Goodweather and the rest of the characters found themselves plunged in a living nightmare. With time running out fast, they work hard to stop the outbreak while battling a fast-rising population of vampires, in a bid to save themselves and humanity at large.
In his review of "The Strain" series episode 1 published on The Hollywood Reporter, Tim Goodman was quick to point out that the show placed more emphasis on entertainment than substance. However, he noted that the trade-off was necessary. According to him, highlighting amazing visual effects was a prime element majority of TV fans require.
Not for the faint of heart, the show promises loads of bone-chilling entertainment as it features vampires at their ugliest, grossest and fiercest. Possessing not a hint of sparkle, let alone brooding charismatic looks, "The Strain" TV series bloodsuckers are a stark contrast to those portrayed in the Twilight saga.
Along with the colorful characters introduced in "The Strain" TV series episode 1, the show's creators promise horror fanatics countless sleepless nights, as they bring vampire, sci-fi action to a whole new level on the boob tube.
