President Barack Obama jokes around with the guy behind the cashier Franklin's Barbeque, an infamous BBQ joint in Austin, Texas. He gave the guy a first bump after the guy told a funny gay joke.
"It was just a lucky day to be the register girl," Daniel Rugg Webb explained to The Austin Chronicle. Webb prepared the joke in advance since they all knew that Obama was coming in the restaurant.
And when the president approached the counter, Webb threw his hand down and slapped the counter dramatically. "Equal rights for gay people!"
To this the president asked, "Are you gay?"
"Only when I have sex."
"That's when he laughed and said, 'Bump me.'" Webb continued.
"Anyway, That's my favorite part because it was cool to get a joke in," Webb says. "I do stand-up, so it was nice to have some interaction based on, hopefully, something funny."
Webb had a field day when it was Obama who came in. "If Rick Perry would've walked in, I would have lost my job. I would've taken that old queen to town."
When Obama got to restaurant, there was a long line at the counter so he jumped the queue. He did however offer to pay for the lunch for the family next to him at the counter but to his surprise the family had a big appetite.
"Hold on, how many folks are y'all feedin'?" the president joked as Bruce Finstad of Houston and his daughter Faith, from Austin, ordered three pounds of beef, two pounds of ribs, a half pound of sausage and a half pound of turkey for their already seated family. And the bill came to more than $300, which also included lunch for Obama's staff.
Well, speaking of gay rights, Obama announced in June that he plans to sign an executive order that would "ban workplace discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees of federal contractors, saying it's 'wrong' that some states still allow people to fire or harass employees solely based on their sexual orientation."
His visit in Austin was to address the ongoing border crisis and the Republicans' recent claims he should be impeached.
