Thousands of Argentinean fans welcomed home their team right after the FIFA World Cup games. Fans celebrated the team's fearless performance during the games most specially in the finale. The team arrived in Argentina with a blast. They were aboard a plane with their faces painted on it together with the words "Thank You Argentina."
A lot of the fans were gathered wearing the Argentina team jersey all eager waiting for the team to arrive. They were seen waiting from the airport up to the football association complex.
Argentina President Cristina Fernandez greeted the members at the complex saying "'You showed that through courage, passion and bringing everything you have and more to the field you can triumph."
She added "You've given us values that Argentines, surrounded by so much triumphalism, thought were lost. Not only does the one in first place win; you also win when you show quality and manage to unite with others to go forward. That's why I wanted to greet you today and thank you on behalf of 40 million proud Argentines."
The team was able to move from the games up to the finals with the leadership of Lionel Messi. Messi also received the golden ball award during the games despite losing to Germany.
Messi thanks the fans who supported them but at the same time was apologetic for not being able ot bring home the championship "'I'm thankful to everyone. I would have liked to bring you back the Cup and to be able to enjoy it. We tried, we gave it our all but we couldn't achieve it."
He continued "Despite that, I think we gave a great joy to the country by reaching this final and facing our rivals without giving anything away."
A lot of fans gathered around the historical Obelisk in downtown Buenos Aires to applaud the efforts made by their team during the World Cup tournament. Many considered this year's performance as their best performance in 24 years. Even though the team was not able to bring home the trophy, they still showed their support and how they were proud of the team for their performance.
