The popular American comic "Archie" is set to release its final edition and fans would be devastated to know that the lead character, Archie, will eventually die.
Archie's impending death comes in Wednesday's edition of "Life with Archie," a spin-off comic series that centers on the life of Archie as an adult. Unfortunately, the famous comic icon will come face to face with his own death after he intervenes and takes a bullet for his gay friend, Kevin Keller, according to Recorder Online.
Jonathan Merrifield, a die-hard "Archie" fan and host of a podcast centered on everything "Archie" said, " I think Archie Comics has taken a lot of risks in recent years, and this is the biggest risk they've taken yet. If it shakes things up a little bit, and people end up checking it out and seeing what's going on in Archie Comics, it will be a risk that was smartly taken."
Archie Comics publisher Jon Goldwater released a statement and said, "The death of Archie is the biggest story in Archie Comics history - and a major milestone for comics, period. Archie dies as he lived a hero, representing the best in all of us. The fact that he's saving Kevin is a metaphor for the rebirth this company has experienced over the last five years. This is truly a new Archie Comics; unafraid, daring, progressive and on the cusp of greatness, BRecorder reported.
He added, "He dies heroically, he dies selflessly. He dies in the manner that epitomizes not only the best of Riverdale but the best of all of us. It's what Archie has come to represent over the past almost 75 years."
Meanwhile, Kevin Keller's character first joined Archie Comics back in 2010 in the spin-off entitled "Veronica." He later on appeared on "Life with Archie" as a married military veteran and newly-elected senator whose main goal is to push for more gun control in Riverdale, after his husband got involved in a shooting incident, FOX News revealed.
