Welcome the goddess of thunder as Marvel introduces a new series that will come out in stores this October. The featured female Thor gained a lot of attention, causing numerous fans to lash out against Marvel on Facebook.
According to some comice fans, Marvel is supposed to be creating new characters instead of trying to ruin exesting ones. If you would browse on Marvel's Facebook, a few people say that the concept of unveiling the new heroine attracting female demograph is not a much of a good idea. Although some would agree about having a female Thor in the Marvel comics.
The new series will be written by Jason Aaron, while the artwork will be done by Russell Dauterman. The new female Thor looks a lot like the male god of thunder except that, of course, it's the female counterpart.
According to Marvel's official statement, the idea's based from Marvel's realization that they have to come up with something in order to draw girls and women attention in to comic books. Therefore, they decided to shake things up a bit by taking Thor into a completely unexpected direction, one that they hope would pay off in the end.
"The inscription on Thor's hammer reads 'Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.' Well it's time to update that inscription," Marvel editor Wil Moss says. He adds, "The new Thor continues Marvel's proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn't a temporary female substitute - she's now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!"
It's precisely this permanence that has the fans gone bonkers. They simply can't believe why the need to change Thor from male to female, when Marvel could have simply created a different female character for the same purpose of boosting sales by targeting women.
Some of the messages they're still leaving on Marvel's Facebook as we speak are none too flattering, so we won't reproduce any of them here. Suffice it to say that they're not happy; and we all know it's never a good idea to anger fans.
