New York Knicks coach Derek Fisher made his coaching debut during the Summer League games where they won over the Dallas Mavericks in a 76-64 finish.

Fisher felt great during his first coaching stint in the NBA saying "There was definitely some emotion coming into the building today, and this morning, as I started to really think about what this meant." He added "And that this would be the first time that I got a chance to actually coach my team in a game situation. The players made me look probably better than I am right now, but the same way that I ask them to work hard and continue to do the things they need to do to get better, that's what I do. And it was a lot of fun today."

More and more former NBA players have been jumping ships and trying their hand on coaching. Fisher was seen roaming on his side of the floor commanding his team in the sidelines. According to him "The players made me look probably better than I am right now. But the same way that I asked them to work hard and continue the things they need to do to get better, that's what I'll do."

The new coach is accompanied by Knicks president Phil Jackson and Assistant General Manager for the New York Knicks Allan Houston. Fisher admits that the summer league is a learning process not only for him but also for the players. He said "We're cramming months-worth of information into these guys in four days and trying to get them out here ready to play. It's not an easy task."

With regards to the incoming NBA season and how he thinks his team is going to do during the games he said "We expect to be able to compete in the Eastern Conference. Obviously, having Carmelo would make that easier."

Fisher is looking forward to the incoming NBA season and appears to be confident having Carmelo Anthony on their side. A lot will be looking forward to his coaching style was well as how he will push his team to move to the playoffs.
