It's official-actress Shannon Guess Richardson will be in prison for the next 18 years.
The Walking Dead actress, 36, was sentenced to jail in a federal court in Texas after entering into a plea deal. She was arrested in June 2013 after it was found that she mailed ricin-laced letters to POTUS Barack Obama and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Fortunately, FBI authorities were able to intercept the letters, which were found to have "very low concentrations" of the toxin. The letters read, "You will have to kill me and my family before you get my guns. The right to bear arms is my constitutional God-give right. What's in this letter is nothing compared to what I've got planned for you... Anyone wants to come to my house will get shot in the face."
She was then charged with possession and production of a biological toxin. At first, the actress, who also appeared in a minor role in the movie The Blind Side, put the blame on her ex-husband, Nathaniel Richardson, who filed for divorce in 2013. But authorities found discrepancies with her allegations and discovered that the actress had attempted to frame her former spouse by creating an e-mail address, P.O. box and PayPal account in his name, which she used to purchase the materials to create the ricin.
"After he left the house, I printed the mailing labels for President Barack Obama, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Mark Glaze with The Raben Group," she recounted in the plea agreement submitted to court. Glaze was the director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a group that advocates tougher gun control.
In December, Richardson pled guilty to her federal charges and her lawyer capped her prison sentence at a maximum of 18 years, which she will serve, along with payment of restitution.
The mother of six spoke out in court saying, "I never intended for anybody to be hurt. I'm not a bad person. I don't have it in me to hurt anyone. I do love my country, and I respect my president."
