Even though Louis van Gaal came home from the World Cup 2014 with just third place for Netherlands, the coach defends his reputation upon his arrival as now the coach of Manchester United.

"I'm democratic, empathetic to human beings.

"Of course I have a strong personality, but the other characteristics are more important."

The 62- year- old coach has won titles for Barcelona during 1997- 1998, for Bayern Muich during 2009 to 2010, and the AZ Alkmaar during 2008 to 2009. He also coached Ajax successfully from 1993 to 1996.

"I will do my best and that's what I can give," said Van Gaal. He has won league titles for every club that he has managed ever.

"I have to adapt to this club. It shall not be easy, but I will do my utmost. When you see my career, you can see what I have won and that is what I can say. The future shall show if I can do that again."

"It's a great challenge because of the expectation.

"I worked for Barcelona, in my opinion number one in Spain; I have coached Ajax, number one in the Netherlands; I have coached Bayern Munich, number one in Germany, and now Man United, who are number one in England and I hope I shall fulfil expectations."

When asked about his management style being 'unfair,' he said this: "the media want to show that part of the personality. When you repeat that, everybody thinks like that."

He also talked abou the new team members, Ander Herrera and Luks Shaw saying, "I gave my approval because I like them."

And when asked about his captain as of the moment, he said: "All the players are possible candidates. I have to get to know them."

The team returned to Old Trafford for some pre-season training last July 4.
