Arsenal Team News: French Mathieu Debuchy Signs Up For Arsenal For $20m

Mathieu Debuchy was bought by Arsenal from Newcastle United for $20 million or around £12 million. The 28- year- old French player may not have goaled for the recent World Cup in Brazil, but he was key to reaching the quarter- finals.

Debuchy said, "I'm very proud to be joining a great club like Arsenal and to wear its colours. It's one of the biggest clubs in the whole world.

"I'm looking forward to working with Arsène Wenger and to helping the team build on last season's FA Cup success.

Playing again in the Champions League is a big excitement for me and I will do my best to help Arsenal compete for trophies."

Arsene Wenger, also a French, and the current manager of Arsenal also expressed his excitement over Debuchy's hiring. He said: "We are delighted to welcome Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal. He has shown he can perform at the highest level with his club sides and also for France.

"He is a quality defender who has good Premier League experience and I'm confident he will fit in very well with us."

Debuchy has 25 international caps up to date, and has 2 internationa goals as of the moment, too, according to Fifa's official website.

He also has 46 appearances during this 18- month stay on Tyneside after he signed up from Lille. In Lille, he won the league and French Cup suring his stay in the years 2010 to 2011.

Debuchy was hailed in the Lgue 1 team of the season in the successive year, after he also won the first of his twenty- five French caps last October 2011 against Albania.

He will replace Barcary Sagna after he left Arsenal for Manchester City using a free transfer.
