A deal has finally been struck between Arsenal FC and French defender Mathieu Debuchy. Debuchy was snatched from Newcastle United in a deal that could be worth 15 million euros. The deal came in handy after Bacary Sagna left Arsenal for Premier League Manchester City and according to Arsenal, the 28 year old footballer is the best replacement for Sagna.

He is often deployed in the right back position, but began his career playing as a midfielder usually acting as a deep-lying playmaker.

It has been quite a long time Arsenal has been wooing the French native and his agreement came right in handy for the team. Debuchy played for the French National Team during the recently concluded FIFA World Cup where in the team reached the quarter finals of the tournament. He joined the national team in 2011 and has since earned 25 caps, playing at UEFA Euro 2012 and the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He played all of his games in the World Cup until the quarter finals except for their game against Ecuador where he was replaced by Bacary Sagna

Arsenal Manager Arsène Wenger welcomed the arrival of Debuchy to his team saying "We are delighted to welcome Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal. He has shown he can perform at the highest level with his club sides and also for France." He added "He is a quality defender who has good Premier League experience and I'm confident he will fit in very well with us."

Debuchy will join his new team for the pre season preparations and will be expected to debut at the Emirates Cup in the first weekend of August. He said of his new team "I'm very proud to be joining a great club like Arsenal and to wear its colours, it's one of the biggest clubs in the whole world. I'm looking forward to working with Arsene Wenger and to helping the team build on last season's FA Cup success." He continued "Playing again in the Champions League is a big excitement for me and I will do my best to help Arsenal compete for trophies." His performance will definitely be an asset to the Arsenal team.
