Flappy Bird Game Online: Copycat Games Take A Pot Shot As New Game Looms In August:
The flappy bird game online raised eyebrows when it was released in Februay by Dong Nguyen, a Vietnamese developer who was virtually unknown in the gamosphere. Dong, though unassuming, became popular as he reeled in millions in downloads and became a trend setter on Twitter. Nguyen then said that he was making $50,000 for ads and displays.
There might be a lot of people happy with that kind of income, but Dong was not. He felt addicted to the game and took the game down from Apple's App store on that account. The game was on top of the top downloaded apps in the U.S. for two straight weeks. After yanking his app from Google Play February 9th, Dong told Forbes flappy bird was 'gone forever.'
With so much interest in flappy bird, app stores began to sell clones and before you knew it even Sesame Street was getting in to the cloning game. At one point Ebay was selling iPhones installed with flappy birds at huge prices. Some for as high as $100,000.
With the game racking up so much money, most gamers thought the deviation from flappy bird was a ploy to get more money for a second release. Though that was not exactly the case, Mr. Nguyen told CNBC that he would come back with a new version of the flappy bird in August. And August is just around the corner with flappy bird fans eagerly anticipating the new release and counting the days.
However, before the next arrival of the flappy bird version, which is said to include a multi-player version, a number of copy cat or 'Copy Bird' games are taking over online gaming and they are pretending to be the next version of the Flappy Bird.
A recent Business Insider article read, “Enough time has passed where we can talk about a game being ‘the next Flappy Bird’ without cringing." Let It Goat is an examples of these 'copy bird' games.
