Jason Mraz' "Yes" album just came out last July 15, containing 14 purely acoustic songs about faith, love, and nature.
According to Billboard's track-to-track review of the new set of songs from the musical poet, the album "boasts gems to soundtrack a late summer night, a beach bonfire, a long drive or a relaxing night at home."
The Grammy Award winner teamed up with all girl rock-folk group, Raining Jane, creating a "more intimate sound instead of the anthemic, upbeat tracks from 2012's 'Love Is a Four Letter Word,'" wrote Billboard.
"Being with them for so long, the importance of not being gender-specific has rubbed off on me and the understanding of how women are made to look small or be small in society has rubbed off on me," Mraz said about Raining Jane in an interview with CBC Arts. "They're not my backing band. They actually set the pace."
With Jason Mraz' "Yes" album made up of all acoustic songs, it looks like the "I Won't Give Up" singer had a more intimate audience in mind.
In the same interview CBC Mraz revealed his preference for smaller crowds when performing. He reportedly gets "disconnected" and becomes "a little more generic" when he plays in larger settings.
He further explains, "When I play in a smaller venue, I'm more likely to tell stories and not follow a set list or a script, and have more of a direct connection with my own soul as well as this audience that's standing by."
The "Remedy" singer looks to already be securing that connection with his listeners without compromising the soulful nature of his music with this series of songs. Billboard has called Jason Mraz' "Yes" album "an invigorating change-up record that shines in an already impressive discography."
He further revealed his laid-back nature with his non-musical hobby: farming. The 37-year-old self-proclaimed "gentleman farmer" owns a farmland that grows squash, avocados, passion fruit, cucumbers, guavas, and mangoes. He reportedly aims to preserve his crops for a vegan Christmas dinner.
