Marvel has revealed several big twists in the new Avengers comic books cast just 1 week before Comic-Con, as fans wondered how changes will affect big screen adaptations.
According to a Yahoo report, the first big twist in Avenger comic books was made last Tuesday at ABC's talk show "The View" was that Norse god superhero Thor would be a woman.
The second announcement was made on "The Colbert Report", revealing that the iconic Captain America's shield will be passed on to his longtime ally The Falcon, thus making the new Captain America an African-American.
With the weight of these twists in the new Avengers comic books cast, many ask how these changes will affect Marvel's billion highly successful movie franchises?
While Marvel's comic book business has definitely seen better days, the company's big screen adaptations have been very profitable, making more than half a billion dollars this year alone.
Female Thor
Many think that Marvel's decision to make a female Thor as part of the new Avengers comic book cast would put her head-to-head against DC Comics' May 2016 Wonder Woman movie.
However, a big screen female Thor is not likely to happen anytime soon, since the current Thor Chris Hemsworth still has three movies in his contract.
African-American franchise-leading superhero
On the other hand, the possibility of having an African-American as franchise-leading superhero Captain America was said to have been strongly set up in the superhero's last Winter Soldier movie. In it, Captain America (played by Chris Evans) becomes friends with fellow military man Wilson (Anthony Mackie), who doubles as the crime-fighting, aerial combat expert Falcon.
There also have been talks about how Evans might give up acting when his contractual obligations are completed - in Marvel's case, being next year's Avengers: Age of Ultron, plus two more movies.
Iron Man Superior
A report from EW.com has also revealed that a new Iron Man will be part of the new Avengers comic book cast. Revealed by Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso, Iron Man Superior will don an improved armor and, most telling, a new personality that Alonso warns will make him "hard to root for." Fans deem that this twist could eventually ease out Robert Downey Jr. from the Marvel movie franchises.
