British Open Leaderboard: Rory McIlroy Still Number One So Far

Even though McIlroy started weak for the British Open 2014 at the Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, he manages to top the scoreboard for today.

The 25- year- old youngster was always speculated for flunking in the second round for years now, but this tournament was a magical exception. He has delivered back- to- back rounds of 66, thanks to four shots clear of Dustin Johnson. Now, he is on the way to his third major win.

"I have an inner peace on the golf course," said McIlroy. "I just feel very comfortable. I'm very comfortable in this position. I'm very comfortable doing what I'm doing right now.

"I've always said, whenever you play this well, you always wonder how you've played so badly before. And whenever you've play so badly, you always wonder how you play so well. Golf is a very fickle game."

However, the biggest enemy standing between McIlroy and the championship was the weather. Th sunny Liverpool scene was not his forte, but he is continually working on it as the tournament progresses.

"I feel like I'm ready for whatever conditions come because I've practised the last few weeks in links-type conditions," he said.

"I've practised the shots that I might need in windy conditions, or wet conditions, or whatever it is. And in a way, having that four-shot lead isn't a bad thing, because it makes it tougher for the guys to catch you. Whatever the weather is, I won't mind."

McIlroy currently has a two-shot advantage on the field, even though he can do a better than that. However, a birdie putt on the 9th is still better than nothing.

While mcIlroy is leading the scoreboard as of the moment, Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Francesco Molinari, and Charl Schwartzel are leading in the top five respectively.
