The latest True Detective Season 2 spoilers are out. According to the film website Film Divider, there is news that the plot for the upcoming season involves the following:
"The new mystery is to be kickstarted by the murder of Ray Caspar, City Manager of a fictional Californian city. From what I can gather, the new, partly invented map that Pizzolatto is drawing will be essential to his new story. As he teased, some months ago, part of the mystery will involve California's transportation systems. This plot will involve a corrupt scheme to link North and South California with a high speed train, all in pursuit of profitable land ownership and lucrative federal grants."
If the leak is true, then True Detective season 2 plot echoes the story of the Chinatown, the 1974 neo-noir film by Roman Polanski. According to the website, elements of the occult will still be part of the story, but they will not be taking center stage as they did in season 1.
As for the True Detective season 2 cast, one big story is the news that Colin Farrell (Total Recall, Alexander) is in deep talks about starring in the HBO series.
This update has come amidst months of speculation about the True Detective Season 2 cast and plot. The buzz around the detective drama is not surprising, given the critical acclaim that the show garnered in its first season. In fact, big-name stars such as Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain have been rumored to be season 2's next lead stars.
These speculations have been shot down by show creator and writer Nico Pizzollatto. He has also amended earlier statements he made that there will be one male lead, and one female lead. Now, the Pizzolatto confirmed that True Detective season 2 will now have "four central characters". And if the latest news is to be believed, one of them could be Colin Farrell, and the other one might be Friday Night Light's actor Taylor Kitsch.
According to insider reports, of the four central characters, two men and one woman will be working for different branches of the state government, who will end up working together on the case. Farrell's character is rumored to be a California Highway patrolman. Meanwhile, the fourth leading role is rumored to be the show's villain.
Stay tuned for confirmation about these reports for True Detective Season 2 spoilers.
