Erik Spoesltra appeared for the first time since the big news that LeBron James has decided to move back to the Cleveland Cavaliers. When James called in to inform that he is not going back to the Miami Heat, the team went into a "panic mode" for a good "two to three" hours.
Spoelstra said that he met with the team President Pat Riley and General Manager Andy Elisburg to discuss their options. He said that the scene inside the room was the same as the movie Jerry Maguire where the people inside the room were all busy with their phones making countless calls to agents as well as players trying to make the best deal.
According to the 43 year old coach "Probably, we were all in Pat's office about five minutes just to collect ourselves and then from there it was madness. The board was right there. So we said we better get to work and we didn't leave until after 1 in the morning."
They were all stressing out since no one from the agents and callers were answering. IT was when Chris Bosh returned their call where they finally were able to breathe easily.
He said "We were talking to agents, trying to talk our guys, texting our guys and no one was getting back to us. There were two or three hours of a lot of uneasiness. We had no idea. From that point on, it just changed. It's still the Miami Heat, still a great, proven organization, great opportunities and we started to get some calls back and the first one was CB. That one was obviously very important."
In the end, although they lost one of their key player, Heat was able to sign back Chris Bosh on a max contract as well as bring back Dwyane Wade to the team. Aside from that, they managed to pick up Luol Deng who agreed to sign for the Heat on a two year contract worth $20 million.
For now, Miami Heat has a decent roster of players and they are still looking to signing a few more players into the team.
