The 2014 Open Championship is the 143rd Open Championship, held 17-20 July at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Merseyside, England. This is the 12th time that the Open Championship is held at Royal Liverpool.

Among the contenders in the tournament, Rory McIlroy made claims to the best score during the first round of the games and almost did the same thing during the second day. McIlroy is making waves at the tournament as he romped to a 6-under 66 during Friday's game putting him on the lead.

With his starting performance, it looks like the 25 year old Northern Irish golfer is making a clear run like his first two major victories, both by eight shots, at the 2011 U.S. Open and the 2012 PGA Championship.

According to him "I feel like I just have an inner peace on the golf course. I'm very comfortable in this position. I'm very comfortable doing what I'm doing right now. It's hard to describe. I wish I could get into it more often."

SportsPro has McIlroy rated as the third most marketable athlete in the world. In January 2013 he signed a large endorsement deal with Nike.

On the other hand, Tiger Woods was just fortunate enough to make it to the cut at the Open Championship. Woods has jus undergone surgery and this is his first major of the year. He was struggling to a 77 making this his worst round at the Open Championship since the 81 at stormy Muirfield in 2002. HE was even almost sent home for his triple-bogey at the 17th but a subtle chip over a pot bunker at the 18th set up a 6-foot putt that gave him his only birdie of the day.

According to Woods "I'm pretty far back. Hopefully I can play well and give myself a shot going into the back nine on Sunday." When asked to comment about Rory he said "It is not a surprise what Rory is doing. He plays pretty aggressively to begin with, and when he is going, he can get it going pretty good."

McIlroy closest challenger for now is Dustin Johnson as he claimed a spot in Saturday's last group with the best round of the tournament so far, a 65 that left him at 136.
