Floyd Mayweather news reveals the possibility of the highly anticipated bout against Manny Pacquiao to happen in 2015 as Floyd Sr. is reportedly pushing for the bout to happen.
Along with Floyd Mayweather's announcement of fighting Marcos Maidana in a rematch, the top pound-for-pound boxer in the world also hinted about a "big surprise" for May of next year.
The said information about the Floyd Mayweather news was reported by Ivan G. Goldman of BoxingInsider.com, who claims that a source close to the Mayweather camp has given the report.
"The source, who's both a manager and trainer and quite knowledgeable, said Floyd Senior made the remark about Pacquiao as they discussed other matters," Goldman said in his report. "He wasn't absolutely sure that Daddy Floyd wanted his comments repeated so he asked me not to identify him."
Goldman also pointed out that while the source was in constant communication with Floyd Sr., there has not been a final agreement.
"He's known the father for many years. Floyd Senior, he said, wants the fight to cement his son's legacy and bring in what would certainly be the biggest haul in boxing history," Goldman writes about the Floyd Mayweather news. "The source wasn't absolutely certain when they spoke two weeks ago that the entire team was in agreement on a Pacquiao fight."
The mega fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao has been clamored to happen since 2009, when "Pacman" defeated both Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto via stoppage. But it has not materialized due to issues such as drug-testing and pay cut.
As of this posting, both "Money" and "Pacman" already have their respective commitments. Floyd Mayweather will be facing Marcos Maidana for the second time on September 13, while Manny Pacqiao is slated to face undefeated WBO light welterweight champion Chris Algieri on November 22nd.
But according to the source as reported by Ivan Goldman, it was Floyd Sr. who was pushing for the mega fight to happen in 2015.
"Just the fact that the father is pushing for the fight is significant, but the source said that since then he's seen other indications that the rest of the team is on board," Goldman said.
