Oscar pistorius trial

Just a few of weeks before the Oscar Pistorius trial resumes in court on August 7, the South African Paralympic gold medalist was caught in a fight at a Johannesburg nightclub.

He went to an upmarket club with his cousin on July 12 and was accosted by a man who harassed him about killing his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp last February 2013.

According to the Pistorius family's spokesperson, Anneliese Burgess, the athlete was quietly seated in a VIP booth when the angered man approached him.

"The individual, according to my client, started to aggressively interrogate him on matters relating to the trial. An argument ensued during which my client asked to be left alone," the statement said. "Oscar soon thereafter left the club with his cousin."

A report by Johannesburg Star newpaper however, revealed a different story from Pistorius' supposed attacker.

The man, who was identified by the Johannesburg Star as businessman Jared Mortimer, said that the drunk amputee runner poked him in the chest, insulted his friends as well as the family of President Jacob Zuma.

According to Mortimer, the star athlete felt bad that his friends betrayed him in the trial and that he had some information that could get them in trouble.

"He was drunk, but not bad. We were drinking tequila and I still remember putting down my drink and thinking I couldn't drink it while my friends were being spoken of like that," Mortimer said regarding that night.

Pistorius reportedly regrets going to the club and inviting unwanted attention. Leo Pistorius, the 27-year-old athlete's uncle told National Post that the athlete's decision to go out was "unwise" and that it was spurred by a "sense of loneliness and alienation."

This sense of loneliness was causing the Paralympian "self-harming behaviour."

The prosecution for the Oscar Pistorius trial will submit its final written statement on July 30 while the defense team will submit theirs on August 4. Judge Masipa will deliberate with an assessor for the final verdict.
