Tiger Woods Confident for the Ryder Cup

After finishing his worst 72-hole finish in a major, Tiger Woods still feels optimistic of himself for the Ryder Cup team.

Woods had a back surgery last March 31 and the British Open was his first major after the surgery and his second major for the year. His performance showed that his performance has deteriorated right after he came back from surgery. He made mistakes after mistakes during the British open but according to Woods "'I just made too many mistakes."

But team captain Tom Watson was supportive of Woods saying "It's just one day. It's a snapshot. 'It's not a big deal."

When Woods was asked whether he would pick himself to be a part of the Ryder Cup Team he answered with a big smile "I would say yes."

Adding "But that's my position, my take on it. He's the captain. Obviously, it's his decision. [Watson] He's going to field the best 12 players that he thinks will win the cup back. And I hope I'm on that team."

Woods was not able to beat the 64-year old captain as the latter birdied his last hole for a 68. When Watson was asked if Woods was shooting under par, he answered "That's not very good."

Woods returned to the Congressional three weeks ago where he missed the cut by four shots. He said it was his chance to check if he was pain free and also to kick starts his golf games. But it seems like he is still not in top shape. He said "I was certainly expecting it, yes, but I just thought that I know how to play links golf. 'I know how to grind it on these golf courses, and hitting the shots I thought I could get around here. I did the first day. After a bad start I got it back. And unfortunately, as I said, I made too many mistakes with the doubles and triples."

Woods added "There's a lot of things I need to work on, but I haven't been able to work a lot. 'I was down for three months. So I'm just now starting to come back. ... I'm still building. I'm still working on my game. And I'm getting stronger and faster."
