It seems like a lot of people are excited over LeBron James going back home to Ohio and Kyrie Irving is no exception. The 22 year old point guard talked to reports during his basketball camp in Independence, Ohio saying "I was excited. "You have to empathize with the guy. I think we all felt his emotions with the essay. ... I found out like everyone else found out."
James stayed with the Miami Heat's for four years before deciding to go back to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He chose a four year contract worth $88 million compared to Miami's offer of a five year contract worth 122 million. According to him "I looked at other teams, but I wasn't going to leave Miami for anywhere except Cleveland. The more time passed, the more it felt right. This is what makes me happy."
James announced his transfer last July 11 and it was the day before that Irving secured a five-year, $90 million contract extension with the Cavs.
According to Irving "I'm glad we got it done. "A couple days later, a guy decided to come back to Cleveland. The rest is history. Now, we'll let (general manager) David Griffin do his thing. ..." He added "We wanted to make it as easy as possible. I wanted to show my commitment to them and they wanted to show their commitment to me. ... It was a huge monkey off my back, with all the speculation and all the B.S. I was hearing."
For now, Irving is still waiting for their roster to be filled. A lot of new comers are making their way to the Cavaliers which includes other notable players such as Mike Miller and James Jones. There have also been talks that the Cavaliers have plans in picking Ray Allen as well as Kevin Love. It has been widely talked about that James would like to have Love added to their team.
With regards to the free agency frenzy, Irving says "This whole free-agent period has been a whirlwind, so many rumors, so many guys with inside sources. Until it happens and I get a call from our GM ... other than that, I haven't considered it."
