apollo 11 moon landing date: Edwin Aldrin was 'predestined' to walk on the moon, say those who know him well. The reason being his mother's maiden name was 'moon' and his father was an aviator, so his connection to stellar space must have come in early childhood. That's as good an omen as anyone would get for having an astronaut son or the first to walk on the moon.
Aldrin would later say about his mission to the moon with Neil Armstrong, "Learning to fly was just the option." But the goal ahead was pointing to July 20,1969, the Apollo 11 moon landing date. This year NASA celebrates the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing and Aldrin is reminiscing the eventful date by asking social media fans, 'Do you remember where you were when the Apollo 11 moon landing date?'
Mike Collins was the third member on the Apollo 11 moon landing mission and Buzz Aldrin celebrated the 45th year anniversary marking the historic landing with Neil Armstrong's widow Carol and Collins.
The Apollo 11 mission to the moon, often called “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” was like going where no man had gone before for Aldrin. Star Trek fans would call it 'pioneering frontiers.'
“I had looked out the window when Neil went down, and I saw that he was able to move around easily as he scooped up to pick up sample,” Aldrin said. “It was my turn to come down … The checklist provided said, ‘Hold onto the rail and see how stable you are.’ I didn't have to do that, it was easy. I had been trained. Moving around on the moon was easier than it is on Earth.”

The EVA lasted approximately 2.5 hours with all scientific activities being completed satisfactorily. The Apollo 11 EVA began at 10:39:33 p.m. EDT on July 20, 1969 when Astronaut Neil Armstrong emerged from the spacecraft first. While descending, he released the Modularized Equipment Stowage Assembly on the Lunar Module’s descent stage.
