WWE issued a public apology over Lana's pro-Russia comments when she scolded US fans for blaming Russia in the recent Malaysia Airlines MH17 crash. The stunt might have gone too far, prompting the sports entertainment outfit to try to save face.

Although the company has welcomed controversy to spike viewership, the Toronto Sun reported that Lana's seemingly pro-Russian remark forced WWE to issue a public apology.

Based on the files of WWE website, Lana hailed originally from Moscow. She has made a name for herself among WWE fans as Superstar Rusev's International Social Ambassador. She openly aired her views on the issue of fans' laying the blame on her motherland for the recent Malaysian airlines disaster during the Sunday night Battleground.

According to The Sun, she was addressed the Tampa, Florida crowd and aired her criticism in the form of an accusing question first, "You blame Russia for the recent current events?" Then she went on to shift the blame to the Americans, saying that they should feel scared and insulted, for their warmongering in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The pair even went as far as to openly declare their support of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which disgusted and drew flak from the program's viewers throughout the world.

Due to Lana's pro-Russian remark, said Washington Post, WWE issued a public apology while distancing itself from her comments regarding the Malaysian Airlines MH17 tragedy. The company explained that the storyline involving Lana and Rusev's characters has been included in the show's programming for more than three months now.

Company executives have declared their apology to anyone who may have misinterpreted and/or was offended by Lana's comment during the segment.

However, the Washing Post noted that the ploy succeeded in bringing WWE the kind of audience reception it wanted for its two ex-Soviet heels. However, the comments were tactless which warranted the WWE public apology.
