"Amazing Spider-Man 3" has pushed back to 2018 release to make room for "Sinister Six," multiple sources confirmed.
Previously, "Amazing Spider-Man 3," which stars Andrew Garfield, was scheduled for release this coming 2016 but executives at Sony's Columbia Pictures decided to delay it for a few more years to accommodate new films focused on Spider Man's arch-enemies, according to the Toronto Sun.
If the original schedule was to remain in place, the "Amazing Spider-Man 4" would have been released this coming 2018, the Hollwood Reporter noted.
"Sinister Six," directed by Drew Goddard, will be released this coming November 11, 2016, the same publication confirmed.
Following "Sinister Six," another film focused on Spider-Man's enemy, "Venom" will also be released sometime in the near future.
Drew Goddard, the same person who was in charge of films like "The Cabin in the Woods" and "Cloverfield" will serve as "Sinister Six's" writer and director, E! News confirmed.
Doug Belgard, President of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group said, "With Sinister Six in the hands of writer-director Drew Goddard, we feel extremely confident placing the film on prime date in 2016."
"Sinister Six" was first introduced in 1964 and is made up of six members including Electro, Doctor Octopus, Mysterio, Kraven the Hunter, Vulture and Sandman. Electro's character was portrayed by Jamie Foxx and was already part of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" released this summer, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Other villains featured in previous "Spider-Man" film include the Green Goblin, which was initially portrayed by Dane DeHaan and Rhino, played by Paul Giamatti.
"Sinister Six" is produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.
Meanwhile, Sony is also currently helming "Uncharted," written by David Guggenheim and produced by Charles Roven, Alex Gartner and Arad. The film will be based upon the video game series that was developed by Naughty Dog and Sony Computer Entertainment America, the same publication revealed.
