25 year old Diego da Silva Costa has said that he won't change for Chelsea. According to the striker, it was manager Jose Mourinho who told him that the team will play to his strength this coming season. Costa signed for Chelsea with a contract worth £32 million.
The Spain striker talked to club's in-house television channel, Chelsea TV saying "One of the main things he said was that he doesn't want me to change. It was Jose's and the club's decision to buy me and the reason they signed me was because of the way I played at Atletico (Madrid). "
He added "I don't feel I have to change much. I just have to improve fine details to become a better player. Hopefully I will have a similar season to the last one."
Costa started his career playing for Braga in Portugal. He was signed by Atlético Madrid in 2007, who loaned him back to Braga, and then to Celta and Albacete before selling him to Valladolid in 2009.
In his international career, Costa played twice for Brazil in 2013. Later, he decided that he wanted to play for Spain having been granted Spanish Citizenship in September of 2013. He made his début for his adopted nation in March 2014, and was selected for that year's World Cup.
Costa has scored 36 goals last season which inspired Atletico to a first La Liga title in 18 years. With that record, his tally at the club reached 64 goals in 134 appearances.
Because of this Chelsea was convinced in securing the striker and Costa is sure that he will be able to deliver with his performances. He said "I'd say to the fans that you need to be confident that I personally will fight for this club to make sure we are in contention to win as many trophies as possible. I'm part of a great group here of players and we will do everything we can to give the fans what they want, and that's titles."
For Costa, choosing Chelsea was an easy choice "It was an easy decision for me to make. We have some of the best players in the world, the best manager in the world, and it's a club with great history."
