Blondes really have more fun.

Lauren Conrad made an eye-catching upgrade to her hair when she switched out her dirty blond tresses for a bright platinum hue, uploading a photo of the newly dyed waves on Instagram for the entire world to see. She captioned it: "things are getting real blonde around here..."

The sudden change comes after the former The Hills star, 28, clashed with Allure magazine, calling out the publication on Twitter for categorizing her as a "basic" woman. Apart from the harsh description of a "basic" woman being "remarkably unremarkable" who's only noteworthy for her "very plainness," the magazine went on to chide the "basic's" hairstyle as either being a blowout or sausage curls.

Obviously, Conrad didn't agree with the article, and tweeted a photo of the page with the caption, "I definitely just got called a basic b*tch! Haha! Sausage curls!? Really @Allure_magazine?"

Too bad for the magazine because those blond tresses look amazing on Conrad! It's also a bold move for the reality TV star turned fashion designer as she rarely changes her hairstyle. Now she's opting for a fresher 'do that shows off her California roots. It just goes to show that she's anything but "basic!"

Plus, the new dye job may also be in preparation for her wedding this fall! The stylish designer is set to marry USC law student William Tell, 34 whom she's been dating for nearly two years. They got engaged October of last year.

At the time, Conrad took to her official website to announce the news of her engagement. "I am very excited to share with you guys that William and I got engaged over the weekend," she wrote along with a photo of her gorgeous ring. "I am beyond thrilled!
