It seems like The Minnesota Timberwolves are in full rebuild mode, as Superstar Kevin Love does not seem to be the only one on the training block. PG Ricky Rubio is being offered too as the team do not think Rubio is worth Max contract money.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers are stuck in a situation that's not entirely new, but they definitely not want to get used to. Striking out on Carmelo Anthony and even their own Pau Gasol, NBA's glamour team has no choice but to rely on their prized rookie Julius Randle.
The Lakers were open all along that they were really after veterans instead of building through the draft. They were hoping to get a higher pick then assemble a proposal for Kevin Love, but their dream situation went to Cleveland instead.
With an offseason haul of Jeremy Lin, Carlos Boozer, Ed Davis and Randle along with holdovers from last year's 27-win team, the Lakers are bound to be mediocre.
Minnesota, on the other hand, is still dealing with cap issues. They are not pleased to be capped out when their team is not even in the playoffs.
Now, their other star, Ricky Rubio is starting to make demands. He wants the full 5 year maximum contract while implying that he could also bolt if they keep losing-and he's not even the star of the team because Kevin Love hasn't been traded yet.
As a corollary to whatever they can get for Kevin Love, there was a proposal for Rubio to be traded to Tinseltown in exchange for first round pick Julius Randle.
According to Hoopshype, the Lakers would say refuse:
"The Lakers would hang up on that offer, I think. Randle has lots of promise, and there's no reason to sell on him so early, especially when Ricky is in line for a significant raise."
While it's true that Tinseltown wants stars, Rubio is not really proven to be worth a max contract. Not even close.
