Renan Barao faced TJ Dillashaw during their UFC bantamweight title. Dillashaw quickly connected to Barao with a hard punch which made the former champion fall to the ground. Because of that, Dillashaw became the new 135 pound title holder.
During a recent interview, Barao told reporters that he has no memory of what happened to him right after he got hit by Dillashaw. He said "I remember everything that happened until that point. After [that punch], I only woke up in the locker room. The fight was really close in the beginning, but everything changed after that punch."
Both the fighters will face each other once more for a rematch on the title belt and this will be happening next month. During their first fight, Team Barao protested that they do not have enough time to prepare him for Dillashaw but now that he will be facing him once more, the team now has lesser time to train and rest.
Barao said "He landed a heavy punch in the beginning of the fight and I kept fighting on autopilot. I was too slow, I wasn't thinking. [Coach Andre Pederneiras] told me to do one thing and I did another. But I will fight smart this time; I won't let this happen again."
Dillashaw's coach Duane Ludwig thinks that the rematch is coming too soon for the fighter and has questioned Barao decision to further the game instead of rest and train some more. But for Barao "You always have to bring something new. I accepted the fight on short notice and I wasn't 100 percent ready for it, but this time will be different. I never trained so hard in my entire life, so it's going to be different."
A lot has been questioning Barao's decision for the fight. If he thought that he lacks training and rest during their first fight with Dillashaw, then why did he agree to fight him once more in such a short time?
Fans and UFC enthusiast will never know as to why Barao came up with the decision. A lot will be looking intently during their fight just to see whether Barao made the right decision or not.
